MULTIWATERMEDIA PAINTING ON WATERCOLOR PAPER

MONDAY,MARCH 30TH, 9:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.   $70    Max in Class:  14

All Levels of Artists are welcome.  Supply list, below.

“THE AGUIRRESPRINGS VISITOR”

by Marie Siegrist, NMWS.

This workshop will explore the charmsand possibilities of using acrylic and watercolor in the same painting working on Cold Press Watercolor Paper.

The image is one of combined sources.  What I believe is a Cooper’s Hawk, which visits my backyard, is combined with an old dead tree at the top of a rim in Aguirre Springs.

We’ll scumble, spatter, and stipple acrylic paint to make a foreground that suggests a tangle of grasses and other undergrowth.  The old dead tree with textured bark is also acrylic while the soft sky and the hawk (or other bird/animal of your choice) are watercolor.

While this is not a beginner project, I will have another version for those who are less experienced painters.

I will have reference photos and drawings for workshop participants to use OR you may use your own references and drawings of a similar composition.

SUPPLY LIST FOR MIXED MEDIA WATERCOLOR/ACRYLIC WORKSHOP, MARCH 30, 20

PAPER:                 140 lb or 300 lb Cold Press Paper.   A quarter sheet (11” x 15”) stretched on a board prior to  class.  Alternatively a 12 x 16 Watercolor block is convenient for class (no stretching needed).

BRUSHES:            I will be using synthetic brushes in following sizes.  Fine sable is not recommended for                                  acrylic paint.

*  1” Bob Ross Landscape Brush.  If you don’t have this a 1” paint or varnish brush from the

Hardware store will work

*  #4 and #8 round synthetic brush with a good point

* ½ inch bright brush (a short bristle flat brush)

*  1” OR 1 ½” flat wash brush

*  #4 liner brush

*  #4 fan brush

ACRYLIC PAINT:    PREFERRED IS GOLDEN FLUID ACRYLIC, THEY CAN BE ORDERED ON LINE FROM DICK BLICK OR CHEAP JOE ART SUPPLIES.  1 OZ BOTTLES ARE SUFFICIENT FOR THIS WORKSHOP.  IF YOU ONLY HAVE HEAVY BODY ACRYLIC & PREFER TO USE THEM, JUST BRING THEM, WE CAN WORK WITH THEM IN THIS WORKSHOP.   COLORS FOR FLUID OR HEAVY BODY ARE:    TITANIUM WHITE, DIARYLIDE YELLOW, RAW SIENNA, ULTRAMARINE BLUE & QUINACRIDONE MAGENTA.

I WILL PROVIDE ACRYLIC SECONDARY COLORS FOR USE IN THE WORKSHOP.

WATER CONTAINERS:  Two plastic containers and a spray bottle.

MASKING FLUID:   I use MISKIT by Grumbacher.  A masking fluid pick up is also handy to have.
